The Heilongjiang Provincial Science and Technology Department announced the list of projects funded by the Natural Science Foundation of Heilongjiang Province in 2024 last month. This year, our universityhas made significant progress in the projects funded by the Provincial Natural Science Foundation, with the number hitting an all-time high. A total of 66 projects from Heilongjiang University have been granted funds by the Provincial Natural Science Foundation, including 1 project of Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 2 Key Programs, 6 Excellent Young Scholars Projects , 19 Joint Guidance Projects and 38 Programs of Joint Funds. The number of project establishment has increased by 41 compared with that of the previous year, which plays a crucial role in enhancing the university's scientific research capabilities and promoting disciplinary development.

The Natural Science Foundation of Heilongjiang Province is currently the only provincial-level basic research program in the province,including several categories, such as Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, Innovation Teams, Key Programs,Excellent Young Scholars Projects, and Joint Guidance Projects. This year has seen theintroduction of Programs ofJoint Funds. The university attaches great importance to the application for the Natural Science Foundation of Heilongjiang Province programs, and signeda cooperation agreement with the Department of Science and Technology of Heilongjiang Province for the Heilongjiang Provincial Natural Science Foundation Joint Fund, with an investment of 2.1 million yuan to jointly sponsor the Joint Fund programs. Two weeksbefore the official application, a pre-announcement for project applications was released, in order to mobilize the colleges and research centers of the university. Strict scrutiny and the internal review mechanism for application materials,as well asa competition mechanism may help to ensure the quality of the application materials.

In the future, the university will fully utilize the university's strengths in basic research with the implementation of the "Heilongjiang University Academic Prosperity Plan". We will continue to promote the organized application of science and engineering research programs through a management approach of "pre-research, pre-announcement, and pre-evaluation," enhancing the competitiveness of programs. While ensuring the quality of program applications, the university will delve deeper into the potential for applications,motivate moreapplicants, and incorporate the number offunded projectsinto the performance evaluation indicators forcolleges.More autonomy will be granted to colleges and research centers of our university in order to promote a "double increase" in the number of applications andproject establishment for science and engineering research programs.
